The Supreme Court has ruled that the government's proclamation that it trigger Article 50 (to formally begin the process of leaving the EU) without an act of parliament is unconstitutional.

I find tweets like this one [twitter.com]—and there are thousands of similar tweets—to be incredibly short-sighted. Some of the 51.9% who voted to leave the EU now feel that democracy is under threat from "elite judges appointed by the elite class". But the opposite is true. The Supreme Court has ruled that it's unconstitutional, and therefore unlawful, for the government to act unilaterally to enforce changes to UK law. This is monumentally important.

The protection of our democracy has been further extended.

It's a good day.
